Zumba and Bosu
Okay- our area is being hit big time with Zumba (and I wish Bosu). A part of me is a little annoyed with Zumba- any time something new comes along in fitness I see a slight decrease for a short time in class attendance. But price wise we are doing far better and i tihnk it's a fad that will pass. And another part of me wants to take class and see what all the fuss is about:) As for Bosu my sister in Florida keeps telling how much she loves this and I really would like to try this. I think it's unique and different from my jazzercise. And ultimately anything that gets people moving is a good thing!
First day of blog
So today(Wednesday) I teach two Regular classes- an a.m. and a late afternoon. Two completely different groups of women but both equally fun. I'm doing "Wind it up" this week and that usually gets everyone laughing and singin so it makes for a fun class:) My knee has been bothering me - I twisted it playing in the woods with the kids this weekend so I feel like my technique is a little off but the students look great so I guess they really don't pay much attention to me after all ...hee hee. Now that summer is in full swing I'm finding it hard to wake up and get to class any earlier than necessary...I'm not a morning person :) And thank goodness my kids like to sleep in too! By the time class is done though i feel energized and ready to go- that good feeling is one reason why I have been doing this for 10 years. It just hasn't stopped being fun. I mean- there are days were it can feel like work- but I teach 9-13 classes a week so I constantly strive to keep it fresh- not just for the students but for my own sanity. I just got my voice back from last weeks set- way to much "Hey ho" and singing and clapping but I just can't help myself:) I've got us on myspace and now a regular blog- next will be posting some small bits of our more fun class moments on youtube. Till tomorrow- yours in fitness and fun-Ronda
Top tens
I'm always trying to check in with students and get feedback about the classes and the general mood of the students. Here in no certain order are the top ten compliments and complaints I get from students.
Top ten compliments:
1. Love the instructors.
2. Love the music (the diversity and artists).
3. Love the different formats.
3. Love your floor:)
4. Great prices.
5. Love the routines (the dance moves).
6. Love the free promo items!
7. The Lite and low impact options.
8. You are my sunshine.
9. I miss you when I'm not in class.
10. I feel so much better when I'm done!(and not because I'm done)
Top 10 complaints...and I don't take these personally...if you don't get feedback how will you be able to improve and grow?
1.Too intense of a class (way to hard- too much cardio, too much high impact, very intense strength training)
2. Not intense enough (a LITE class that is supposed to be a Regular).
3. All standing classes all the time (or just too often.)
4. Shortened classes.
5. Canceled classes.
6. Not getting the promo items (either because we ran out or they couldn't make it to class).
7. Weird songs.
8. Weird choreography.
9. Technical diffculties (mic, stereo, restrooms, air conditioner to name a few)
10. A moody instructor:(

The Perfectly Packed Gym Bag or locker
What would make for the perfectly stocked gym bag or locker.....hmmmmm...
Assume that your handweights, water, towel and mat are a constant but from there let's add:
Clean socks and a baggie to put the smelly ones in:)
Hand Sanitizer and even better the prepackaged wipes.
Extra hair ties and bobby pins and clips- for the pesky bangs.
Deodorant.
Body Spray.
Tampons and panty liners.
Band aids.
2 dryer sheets for your smelly shoes.
Breath mints for after class.
A safe place for your car keys!
A few extra bucks...for the babysitter...forgotten water...or some fundraiser of one kind or another.
Energy bar or granola or even an apple.
Cell phone-set to vibrate or turned off (it's only one hour people:)
A compact- check for bats in the cave etc before you leave class!
And if you've got plans after class....definetely a hair brush, dry clothes and maybe a little make-up! (it's always a good idea to have an extra set of workout clothes...I don't know how many times I've had students rush to class from work etc.. and realize they forgot a shirt or shorts or sports bra or socks . There has even been times where they wake up and rush in and realize they forgot to put a shirt on over the sports bra or vice versa- no bra under the shirt!)
If you have any other must have items I forgot -let me know!
